Clark Construction Group, LLC - Central Records Complex

Located in Winchester, Virginia, the 256,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Central Records Complex (CRC) was designed to centralize physical files and streamline the storage, retrieval, and management of mission-critical assets. To accomplish this, the federal government sought to design and construct a new facility that utilized an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS).

The interior of this records and technology center unifies the facility’s industrial storage system and professional office environment. The design integrates the two portions of the building with a seamless transition, ensuring that the two areas do not feel like separate spaces.

As a secure facility, stretches of the building encompassing the storage areas were required to be windowless. To tackle this challenge, the design team created an ambitious and innovative façade concept, with an array of textures and colors within the precast architectural panel solution, while meeting stringent blast-resistant requirements. All aspects of the facility are capable of operating 24/7.
